All Club Event a Success!

Thanks to all who came out to check out our facility during the All Club Event last weekend!  It was definitely a great time and fun to see you all back as we start to gear up for the upcoming club season!  Here are a few pictures of the courts and weight room.

Check out the Net System!

The lines have dried enough to play on and the grouted sleeves have cured enough to load up.  Last night we were able to set up the net systems for the first time.  What you see in these pictures are the 3 side by side practice courts.  Hope you are all ready for some volleyball!

Lines are painted!

We painted the lines out on the court flooring today.  It really does sharpen up the playing area.  Now we have to stay off the lines for the next 48 hours till they dry.

Sleeves Installed!

Ok.  I'll be honest, it was no picnic installing the sleeves.  It took almost 30 labor hours spent over 3 days for a 2-man crew to install 12 sleeves out at the facility.  Didn't think it would be that difficult, but first we had to core drill through the facility flooring - not too difficult, but then we had to dig out a 2' diameter hole, 14-inches deep underneath the concrete surface through that 6-inch hole we just core-drilled.  After that we had to mix up about 3 bags of non-shrink grout for each of those holes and then have the expertise to set the sleeve plumb and on center with our court flooring.  Really, it was more difficult than it sounds.

Special thanks to Kim Nakamura for his help and assistance with getting us through this part of the start-up improvements.  Also big thanks to perenial parent volunteer Dan Daley for his volunteering support through this phase.  Twelve sleeves down...only (1) to go!

Senoh Uprights and Net Equipment arrived last week.

The Senoh brand uprights and net system arrived at the facility lst week.  If you've ever been in the market to buy net systems then you know that the Senoh volleyball system is pretty much top of the line!  We went with a very versatile upright system that is guaranteed to last longer than the facility.  In the end we paid a little more but as the old saying goes.. "you get what you pay for".  Now, on to the hard part..installation of the sleeves!

Snap Court Installed!

At the end of September about 8100 sf of the new Bounce Back Snap Court arrived at the facility.  It took about 4 hours for a group of (8) PSVBA club volunteers to set the additional flooring in place.  The training area was instantly transformed!

Hello Blue!

Last night several PSVBA parents helped get rid of the green wall up against the volleyball courts.  We painted the wall with "Rich Navy", a dark blue tone to match the flooring.  When we were done painting (4 hours later) the crew stood back at the other side of the gym and revealed in our work.  What a difference a little paint make!

Special thanks to the Vantino's, the Daley's, the Dennis-Koehn's and the Taitano's for their help in taking down the clashing green wall. If you get a chance to see the facility before the open house, let me know what you think. - Hello Blue!

Save the Date - October 17th - PSVBA Open House!

Please save the date, Sunday October 17th from 4pm to 8pm we will hold our very first 'All Club" event at our new volleyball training facility!  We never got around to holding one last season, so this time around we will make up for it!  We are working out the details, but our Parent Board will be tasked with coming up with a plan to make this a fun event for the whole family.  Of course, all of our current and past members are invited to tour and see the facility!  (more details to come) -Pat

Snap Court has been ordered!

Last week we put money down on the remaining snap court to complete phase 1 of the flooring for our volleyball facility.  We will be adding an additional 8,100 square feet to go along with the approximate 5,600 square feet that have already been installed.  At the completion of Phase 1, we will have access to a total of 4 competition courts and 6 practice courts in our volleyball facility.  The flooring will arrive in 2-3 weeks.

PSVBA has a new home at our New Volleyball Facility at the Edge!

For a good part of the last year, I've spent many (many) hours working hard at finding a place for PSVBA to train and practice.  Since day 1 this has been one of our main goals.  I am extremely proud to say that that goal has been attained!

Yes, PSVBA will have a new home this season!  It will be a complete volleyball training facility that will allow us to do a better job at producing quality teams and producing elite caliber volleyball athletes.

PSVBA is partnering with Competive Edge Performance Training to create a volleyball training facility that is non-existent in our region.  We will be the first elite club in our region to offer a complete training program within our club that includes volleyball skills training, speed and agility, weight training, jump and strength conditioning specifically designed for the volleyball athlete - within our club.  Most other regional clubs have an outside trainer or staff coach run their training program, some don't have a training program or they have their athletes train outside on their own.  PSVBA will have the ability to do this within our club program, without cutting into our volleyball practice time, and in our new home -all under one roof!

I'm very excited about the upcoming year and looking forward to inviting all our current members (players and family), past members and graduated alumni to tour our facility before the upcoming season.  Please keep posted for an upcoming announcement on PSVBA's All Club Event and Open House to be held in October!

More to come... -Pat T.

We decided to go with Snap Court!

Why Snap Court?  Well we took some time researching floors and came to the conclusion that our club is really geared to send our teams to National Qualifiers and as such should look at what type of surface is used at those events.  So we decided on a portable high impact poly-plastic material and narrowed down to Sport Court and Snap Court.  There were enough differences that lead us to choose Snap Court; mainly the 3/4-inch thickness of the tile and the shock absorbing under structure that is built into each Snap Court tile.  Of course it helps that I notice the difference when playing on a Snap Court surface!

Counting down the weeks!

Seems like the 2010 club season was just yesterday...or maybe its the blur that happens when you go right into the high school program and don't get to rest.  That's what it feels like for me.  But some of our coaches are just counting down the weeks.  They can't wait to kick-off the club season, which really isn't that far off.  There's a buzz going aroung our club this off-season that is creating a lot of excitement and anticipation.  "Puget Sound has a new home!"  Yep, coaches can't wait to get into our new volleyball facility - I can't say that I'd blame them, especially with that and all the other great things we have planned for this coming year!

Working toward a better PSVBA!

A year ago, when we took over Puget Sound Volleyball Club from founders Jan & Kelly Kirk, we envisioned creating a high performance environment for the elite athlete - a place to develop volleyball talent and produce athletes and teams that could successfully compete on the Jr. National stage.  We knew that in order to create this performance driven environment, we had to have a volleyball training facility. I am proud to say, we are a huge step closer to making this dream a reality!  -Pat T.
